    Explanation:

    Gravitational potential energy of an object is the energy of that object possesses due to its position in the gravitational field. As we know that an object cannot be lift up until the lifting force is greater than weight of the object. So it follow that gravitational potential energy is the weight times the height to which it is lifted.

    gravitational potential energy = weight * height

    PE = mgh

    It can be seen from the formula that PE has linear relation with height. So if height is X times higher than other object, gravitational potential energy also X time higher.
