Earth exerts a 1.0 N gravitational force on an apple.

Does the apple accelerate toward Earth, or does Earth accelerate toward the apple? Explain your answer.

    Newton's third law of motion states that for every action, there is an opposite and equal reaction. When the Earth pulls on the apple with 1.0 N of force, the apple also pulls on the Earth with 1.0 N of force in the opposite direction.
