A situation would be a ball sitting at rest or a ball rolling down a table without any external interference

Inertia is the property of the body which resists any change in the state of motion of the body.
There are three types of inertia.
1. inertia of rest
2. inertia of motion
3. inertia of direction
When a book is placed on the table top, it remains at rest. So, it is the example of inertia of rest.
If a ball is sliding on the floor it continues in motion, it is an example of inertia of motion.
If a car is moving towards east it continues to move n the same direction, it is an example of inertia of direction.
