2. During the summer months the sun rays hit directly to the surface i. e., they sun rays are less spread out causing the Earth to heat up more. During the winter months the sun rays hitting the Earth are more spread out causing the Earth to heat up less as compared to the summer months.

3. During the summer months the days are longer, this means that North America receives more sunlight heating the Earth's surface which means that the surface cannot cool down as the nights are shorter.
