A certain brand of hotdog cooker works by applying a potential difference of 130 V across opposite ends of a hot dog and allowing it to cook by means of the thermal energy produced. The current is 12.3 A, and the energy required to cook one hot dog is 63.4 kJ. If the rate at which energy is supplied is unchanged, how long will it take to cook three hot dogs simultaneously?

    118.95 s

    Explanation:

    Here hot dog be considered as a resistor of resistance R.

    They are simultaneously heated so it means they are connected in parallel.

    When one hot dog is cooked

    V = 130 V, i = 12.3 A, E = 63.4 kJ

    Let t be the time taken to cook one hot dog

    Energy = V i t

    63.4 x 1000 = 130 x 12.3 x t

    t = 39.65 s

    Time to cook three hot dogs simultaneously

    T = 3 t = 3 x 39.65 = 118.95 s
