A ski lift takes a 60 kg skier to the top of a 100 m slope. Assuming her skis are frictionless, what is her speed when she gets to the bottom of the slope?

    The Answer is: v=44.27 m/s

    So basically we need to find the speed in this problem! Gravitational Potential Energy becomes Kinetic energy since she is going down a slope. The Formula for GPE is GPE=mgh and the formula for KE is KE=1/2mv^2.

    m is mass, g is gravity, h is height and v is velocity (speed).

    So ...

    GPE=KE

    mgh=1/2mv^2

    To Solve for V we need to get v on one side.

    v=√2gh

    Then Plug in the values!

    g = 9.8 (It's always 9.8 if the problem doesn't say)

    h = 100m

    So ...

    v=√2 (9.8) (100)

    v=44.27 m/s!
