A 5.00 kg ball is on a 10.00 m ledge. If it is pushed off the ledge, how much kinetic energy will it have just before hitting the ground?

    Conservation of mechanical energy:

    The max gravitational energy equals the maximum kinetic energy.

    In this case we know max GPE so KEmax = GPEmax

    GPE = mgh

    GPE = (5) (10) (9.8)

    GPE = 490 J

    GPE = KE

    So ...

    KE = 490 J
