The large dust clouds are predominantly located in a spiral 'woven' around the Galaxy M51.

This is why the M51 Galaxy is called the Whirlpool Galaxy because the large dust-like clouds which are hydrogen gasses form a ring-like spiral around the core star.

    Asteroids

    Explanation:

They are made up of oxygen and silicon, the number one and number two most abundant elements in the Earth's crust. The metallic asteroids are composed of up to 80% iron and 20% a mixture of nickel, iridium, palladium, platinum, gold, magnesium and other precious metals such as osmium, ruthenium and rhodium.

In the event of an existential threat on Earth, such as nuclear holocaust and the subsequent nuclear winter, or supervolcano eruption, a colony on an asteroid would allow the human species to continue on.
