    If a car is traveling on the highway at a constant velocity, then the force that pushes the car forward must be equal to the force of friction exerted upon the car, AND in exactly the opposite direction. (D)

    If that's true, then the forces on the car are balanced, and the car doesn't accelerate ... which is exactly what we need, because you told us that the car is moving along the highway "at a constant velocity".
