A geologist is studying a rock core sample of a hillside. Which would be the BEST evidence that this hillside was once covered by a body of water?

    A) The top of the core sample would contain fossils of shells.

Top of sample means very recent events so its not good evidence for the past.

    B) The bottom of the core sample would be saturated with water.

If the sample is saturated w water, there is water now; not the past.

    C) The top of the core sample would contain leafy plant material.

Leafy mat'l has nothing 2 do w water.

    D) Aquatic fossils would be found near the bottom of the core sample.

Bottom of sample n aquatic fossils combine 2 make this the best ans.

    The ans is D.
