Apollo 8 carried the first humans TO the moon, in December 1968. Astronauts Frank Borman, James Lovell, and William Anders reached the moon, orbited the moon 10 times, and returned to Earth without ever landing ON the moon.
The first human to land and STEP ONto the moon was Neil Armstrong, in July 1969.
