A 1200-kg car moving at 14 m/s collides completely inelastically with a 4500-kg truck at rest. Since the collision is completely inelastic, the car and the truck stick together and move as a single object after the collision. How fast do they move off after the collision?

    M1=1200kg

    U1=14m/s

    Car at rest:

    M2=4500kg

    U2=0

    Their common velocity=v

    M1xU1+M2xU2=V (M1+M2)

    1200x14+4500x0=v (1200+4500)

    16800+0=v (5700)

    16800=5700v

    Divide both sides by 5700

    16800/5700=5700v/5700

    2.95=v approximately

    Their common velocity=2.95 approximately
