    They both transfer energy through a medium in form of waves.

    Explanation; Transverse waves are waves in which the waves move in perpendicular direction to the source of vibration of particles. For longitudinal waves, the waves move in parallel direction to the source of vibration. They are similar in the sense that energy is transferred in the form of waves. Therefore, they are common in that they both transfer energy through a medium.
