Suppose a logs mass was 5kg. After burning, the mass of the ash is 1 kg. Explain what may have happened to the other 4kg?

    Well, we know that mass is conserved, so the missing 4 kg couldn't

    just disappear. It had to go somewhere.

    It may have left the burning log in the form of hot gases and smoke particles.
