Chemical fertilizers e. g. ammonium nitrate, nitrogen fertilizers, potassium fertilizers e. t. c are non-living, as they contain chemicals that are non-living compounds. However, bio-fertilizers contain living micro-organisms such as plant growth promoting rhizobacteria that enrich soil and make it fertile. So fertilizer contain non-living compounds or living microorganisms, depending on which kind of fetilizer is used.
