How does the orientation of the Earth's axis relate to the position of the Sun in the sky?

    Earth's axis is tilted about 23-degrees. Due to this, in the Northern Hemisphere the sun rises and sets farther to the south than in summer. Just the opposite is true for the Southern Hemisphere.
