Because your body ... the product of millions of years of evolution within
atmospheric pressure ... is full of spongy flesh, fluids, juices, and other
structures and materials that push outward, exactly balancing the outside
pressure, so that over some range of pressures, you do not inflate like a
balloon, and you do not collapse like a prune.
