    Yes, it can be linked to diseases in both cases. Minerals are substances which are required in appropriate amounts for proper functioning of the body. A deficiency of minerals can cause weak bones, fatigue, weak immune system, etc. For instance, deficiency of zinc can produce a weakened immune system, and as immune system becomes, the chances of getting a disease increase. On the other hand, an excess of minerals can also be detrimental as it causes mineral toxicity. Different types of minerals can cause different types of toxicity. For instance, high amounts of iodine in the bloodstream can interfere with hormone functioning
