    Earth's tilted axis and orbit cause seasons, affecting the number of day light hours and the temperature of a location on earth. The earth rotates at about a 23° angle, and this tilt causes the amount of sunlight at each location on earth to change throughout the year. Seasons are caused by this tilt. The tilt toward the sun is maximized in the North Pole (around June) and in the South Pole (around December). Hence its summer in June and winter in December in the Northern Hemisphere. In summer, the number of day light hours is increased, and as more sunlight falls at a more direct angle, temperatures increase.
