How could you increase the moment of inertia of a beam without increasing its cross sectional area?

    You can increase the moment of inertia of a beam without increasing its cross sectional area by making the beam more solid by using more material or material with a higher density. Also, you could deflate the air out of it so it has less tendency to rise with hot air currents.
