In electric ovens, the heat in the oven comes from the bottom when you bake something. However,

cookies baking on the top shelf get done before cookies on the bottom shelf, even though the bottom

shelf is closer to the heat source. Use what you know about heat and air to explain why this happens.

    Answer: The heat travels from the bottom of the oven yes but heat rises and the cookies bake faster because the pan is hot and the cookie absorb the heat.

    Heat rises to the surface. The cookies get the heat and then the cookies are baked.

    Heat generated by the electric oven at bottom is transferred to the top. The cookies at the top absorbed the hot air (heat) which begins the baking process and sends the cold air to bottom of the oven. This continues until the entire oven has a uniform hot temperature. By this time, the cookies at the top is almost baked and the cookies at the bottom is just beginning the process of baking. As the process continues the cookies at the top completes the baking process before those at the bottom.
