We cannot determine for sure what the origin for these terms might be. The terms may have been influenced by their environment - this nomadic people may have created an entire language based on the environment they were surrounded by. Or conversely, they may have created their language first and then changed their perception of the environment after that. Ultimately, we cannot know that.
