    The answer would be repression. Repression involves placing uncomfortable thoughts in comparatively unreachable areas of the subconscious mind. Thus when things happen that we are powerless to cope with now, we push them away, either preparing to deal with them at another time or hopeful that they will vanish on their own concurrence. Example: A child who is ill-treated by a parent far ahead has no memory of the events, but has distress forming relationships.
