The Rosenhan experiment was a famous psychological experimental study conducted in the 1970s in the United States. The aim of this study was to investigate the validity of psychiatric diagnoses in psychiatric institutes. The participants in this study were pseudopatients (that means, they pretended to be patients suffering from mental disturbances when in fact they were actually healthy). The main finding of the this was that pseudopatients were misdiagnosed by psychiatric facilities as having a mental illness.
