Janie’s attitude about the opinion of the townspeople changed because the townspeople started to judge Janie and tea cake’s courtships. They thought that it was a bad idea and felt afraid for Janie that she should marry someone on her social level. However, Janie believes she’s in love, and that marriage is a gamble and she is willing to take a chance with tea cake.
