Why did the first continental Congress send the declaration of rights to the king

    If I am remembering my history correctly, the Congress sent their drafted declaration to the king in the hopes that he would accept their demands and violence could be avoided. The Declaration was basically a document saying, "This is what we want from you instead of what you've been giving us."
