    This would be called criminal commitment. When an individual was under the influence of a mental illness in the commission of a crime, is found guilty of that crime but poses a legitimate insanity defense, the individual will likely be deemed unfit for prison and will be criminally committed instead. This allows the individual to be placed on proper medication in order to rehabilitate.
