    The correct answer is C. The union got control over the complete length of Mississipi river, after the capture of Vicksburg. This divided the Confedaracy into two parts. Union also got control over New Orleans. After capture of Vicksburg, people started living in caves and ate rats, and thus Preberton also had to surrender. This caused fall of Vicksburg.
