Among other things, Sigmund Freud studied the human mind; the conscious and the unconscious. There are 3 personality structures: the id, superego and ego. The id is the most primitive one; it indulges in your desires without thinking about the consequences. The superego is concerned about the morality of your actions. Lastly, the ego is the compromise between the superego and the id. The ego personality postpones your desire and compromises your actions that is within the moral standards. It is the practical personality that deals with reality.
