How did the Russians refusal to fight a major battle against the French affect Napoleon's army?

The Russians burned their homes and farms while retreating. Napoleón went too far into Russia, while not having any food their previously had from other nations farms. Then the Russian winter came. Many of the French soldiers died due to freezing or starvation. I think it was napoleons last or close to last war
