Jose is likely being treated for depression.

Norepinephrine is a chemical which is tasked with making our bodies and brain do a particular action and not be passive. Serotonin is also known as the happy hormone which is responsible for positive feelings we experience. So if Jose was prescribed with a drug which will affect these levels, we can assume he is suffering from depression as people who are have low levels of both of these hormones.
