It is important for societies to have a tort system because it enables individuals to be forthcoming and justly compensated for harmful and unfair practices by institutes such as businesses, organisations and educational institutes.

For instance, if a child sustains an injury due to deliberate negligence from a childcare worker, the parent (s) of the child will have to tend to the child’s injuries which includes expenses (medical costs, doctor consultation, etc.). The tort system in this case is beneficial since the parents can be compensated for the negligence that led to their child’s injury.
