When did the concept of race, as we understand today, develop in the western world?

    According to Richard B. Moores's book, the concept of race was created mostly by slave traders along the Mediterranean as a means of describing their captives to prospective buyers. It is widely accepted that race is originated in europe in early modern period and then it was exported to the rest of the world during the age of imperialism.
