What was one thing that each of these Ancient Greek city-states was known for?

One thing that each of the ancient Greek city-statesis of course dependant on which city state you're referring to. For Sparta we would obviously say that war and wartime training of boys would be their defining characteristic, while the Athenian main characteristic would be democracy for example.
