    The Trans-Saharan trade routes was a major trade route in the centuries it was very active. It connected North African countries to one another through trade of salt and slaves among others, by caravan of men that could be as much as 1200 camels strong, and relied on desert oasis for water supply and strong berbers for protection. The trans-saharan trade route was a major means of contact between North African countries.
