Answer: The colonists suffered unfair treatment for their religious beliefs in the past.

Explanation: The first Ammendment added freedom of religion to the constitution in order to allow evryone participate and be free with the religion the choose and not victimize others foe their religious beliefs. Because colonies had suffered unfair treatment in the past where one religion is favoured more than the other.
