    According to David Weschler, intelligence is defined as the global capacity to act purposefully, to think rationally to to deal effectively with the environment.

    Intelligence can be measured through many tests and test questions. The most common way to measure intelligence is through the intelligence quotient or 'IQ' test developed by Alfred Binet. This test measures an individuals intellectual ability. The IQ test compares an individuals mental age with their chronological age. The IQ test involves questions on logical thinking, working with numbers and

    Nature studies involve looking into twin case studies to explore whether the role in the development of intelligence is formed through genetic inheritance. In a study conducted by Thoman Bouchard in 1990, he discovered that twins who were separated at birth and raised apart showed similarities in characteristics. However, Bouchard discovered that identical twins who were raised separately did not have IQ's that were similar to those of identical twins that were raised together. However, the results showed that their IQ results were still more similar than fraternal twins raised together.

    Daniels and Plomin, looked into adoption studies to see if adopted children were more alike their adopted parents or biological parents. Daniels and Plomin investigated adopted children who were separated from their biological parents after 12-24 months. Daniels and Plomin studied shyness in this child as it was a highly reflective characteristic in the childs biological mother. However, the children whos adoptive mothers were unusually shy also showed above average levels of shyness.
