Philosopher Francis Bacon has argued for inductive reasoning over deductive and thought knowledge can be gained through and the careful observation of events in nature.

He thought inductive reasoning comes from these careful observations and from sorting them "into a formal arrangement so that they may be presented to the understanding." For him, experiments were the most important tool of discovery, testing hypothesis, and gathering truth from the results.

Although in deductive argument the conclusion is certain, in the inductive argument it is probable and based upon the collected evidence.

For Bacon, however, this was like collecting material found in nature into the basket of knowledge, and he compares this process to producing honey for healthy nurturing. He compared deductive argument to spiders' web when is already drawn out and only gives the conclusion, without any collecting, introducing or usefulness.
