    It depends on how many organisations you give them to.

    Explanation:

    Personal information such as names, bank account numbers, social security number and credit card numbers are usually required by some organisations such as banks, offices in order to be able to identify customer or employees. These information are often required to perform necessary business functions or transactions such as filling orders or meeting payroll. These information can however get into the wrong hands therefore are laws in place to protect sensitive personal information such as;

    The Privacy Act of 1974 - protects personal information and prevents the federal government from disclosing such information. The Gramm-Leach Bliley Act or Financial Modernization Act of 1999 - Which requires financial institutions to provide a privacy policy that explains the information that is collected and how it is used. The Fair Credit Reporting Act - which protects personal financial information that is collected by consumer reporting agencies. The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act - Which allows parents to control what information is collected about their child by obtaining parental consent.
