    In the 1800s, specifically in 1879 a new system of boarding schools proposed by U. S. cavalry captain Richard Henry Pratt appeared. This system tried to "kill the indian in him and save the man" by separating children from their families and once in school they were forbidden to speak their language, use their Native American names among other things.

    This was a way for the U. S. Government of shattering a community once the Native Americans ran out of land to be moved to.
