Mechanical solidarity involves a form of unity among the members of a society as a result of similar values, customs, standards, the same experience, etc. According to Emile Durkheim, "mechanical solidarity characterizes less technologically advanced societies, such as those dependent on hunting and gathering". This type of solidarity reduces the outbreak of chaos as it brings about a peaceful atmosphere in society, and this is because the people have a common sense of judgement on which they all agree.
