    Olaudah Equiano was one of the seminal slave narrative writers and an important figure in 18th century England.

    Olaudah Equiano was born in Africa and enslaved and sent to the colony of the British in the Caribbean where he eventually bought his freedom and went to the UK to live his life.

    Olaudah Equiano is different from the other slaves i that he was able to buy his freedom from the slavers and that he learned how to read and write and wrote his memoir He also became an important figure in the abolitionist movement which was taking hold in The UK by the time he began writing.
