Janet is a middle-class 20 year old college student who has recently started smoking. Although she has been warned by her health practitioner about the health risks, and her own awareness that there is a history of heart disease in her family, she does not make a serious effort to quit. Why do you think this is the case?

    Answer:This may be the trending culture or popular culture that is portrayed around and it has a positive influence on her especially at the age that she is at, she is likely to be easily influenced.

    Explanation:

    Most of us want to be trendy and fit in with the current popular culture or trend and that may be the first thing that comes to one's mind before they can think of the consequences.

    Most of us or some of us want to be liked and be seen as stylish individuals and for that to happen we have to adopt certain styles or particular type of culture that will give us that advantage to fit in with the crowd or with our peers.

    It is also highly likely that her friends may be doing it and think it is cool and for her to be cool also she may think she has to do it.
