The separation of powers in American government benefits the country by ensuring that no branch of government abuses its power. However, it can also create a lot of complexity, which can make the government operate in a slow way.

A real example of this is the case of energy subsidies that are commonly given to oil companies, but recently are also shared by clean energy companies. The processes of providing such subsidies can be slow and complex due to the separation of powers. The benefits of this is that this delay allows each case to be reviewed carefully. Another benefit includes the fact that this prevents rash decisions and encourages consensus. However, a problem of this is the fact that such a long process can make it difficult to innovate or adopt necessary changes in a timely manner.
