Aimee is the mother of a newborn. She is very dedicated to her work but she used to stay for longer hours at work before she had her baby. Now she tries to schedule her work so that she leaves around 5:00 p. m. Her immediate manager feels that Aimee is no longer dedicated or committed to her work and is considering passing her over for a promotion. Is this decision fair?

    Aimee is as a dedicated employee at the organization. An employee is considered as an asset to the organization. Productivity and the fulfillment of a job may not matter with time. In this context, Aimee might be staying for less time in the office because of her personal commitments, but at the same time she have not failed any of her deliverable. Now she have a better plan to execute all her work and could manage both the things.

    Evaluation should be made on the basis of dedication and commitment to the work, the quality of deliverable, to meet the client's expectations. Her manager should rate her performance from beginning and also after the situation got changed and should inform her about any feedback if any improvement is necessary.

    For an HR personnel, it is very important to consider for the employee to maintain a work life balance. So according to me The decision to pass Aimee over a promotion is not fair.
