Explanation: The concepts of solidarity were developed by Emile Durkheim. According to him, the type of social solidarity (be it mechanical or orgsnic) correlates with type of society, which are mechanical and organic societies.

Mechanical solidarity usually exists in small societies among people with similar lifestyles i. e. people feel connected through the experience of engaging in similar work, educational and religious training as well as matching lifestyle.

Organic solidarity on the other hand exists in modern and industrial societies. It is social solidarity based on the dependence of individuals on each other in advanced societies. While individuals perform different tasks and often have differing values and interests, the solidarity of such a society depends on their reliance on each other to perform their specified tasks. Thus, organic solidarity is maintained in more complex societies when each of the component parts perform their tasks to function as one whole entity.
