Parthenon is probably the most famous landmark from Ancient Greece and the most visited tourist destination in Athens today.
The Parthenon was dedicated in honour of the goddess Athena Pallas or Parthenos. Construction initially began in 447 BC. The Parthenon was initially built to replace an old temple which was destroyed by the Persians.
The columns of the Parthenon were made of Pentelic marbles and have been continuously renovated by the Greek government nowadays.
