What do you think accounts for the variation in per capita ecological footprints among societies

When we look at the variations that are found in ecological footprints among different societies, we realize that there are many differences among different groups of people. Countries with more widespread education are generally more ecological. Another factor is development. More developed nations tend to pollute and use resources in much more irresponsible ways.
