Answer: two main things, fear and boredom.

    Explanation:

When I was in battle i was very scared, adrenaline fueled and afterwards, fatigued and sad. Fighting is not as glorious as it seems to be. Most of the time though we are either marching to the next battle, digging in for a battle, or being transported. When we are still, we are often left alone with missing loved ones, keeping their equipment clean, trying to find time to eat and sleep, and maybe get cleaned up a bit, and most of all, we are bored.

Today I fought in the Battle of Big Bethel. It was one of the scariest experiences. I was scared that I wouldnt make it back home to my family, and thats why I write this today. I have to get back to the war - and so here I am going to write how it feels to be in the war for my family - so although I may die, I will be leaving something behind for you.

Being a soldier is scary - beyond scary - however it is what I love to do. every second, you look to your side and see a bullet rushing throug someones stomach. It gives you an insane emotion that I have never felt before. it is as if everything you do coould be the last thing you do - its scary.

it takes my breath away as i dodge and hit my trigger. i look around and it is as if everything is in slow motion. i feel like a warrior.

it is like a movie - my whole life before me. every move i make matters - one wrong move and i lose everthing I love.
