Strong negative public reaction to a Supreme Court ruling affect the ruling impact on society :

The society is well versed with the current affairs that happen in and around to a large extent. Major decisions which don't go well with the public sentiment causes riots and many other atrocities amidst the society.

As Supreme court's ruling is final, though there might be an early resentment to the decision but the society learns to adapt to the decisions in quite some time and tends to respect such a ruling as the court always decided in favor of the masses for the greater good and trusts that it gives judgement without biases.
